i'm very disappointed...

...in Kraft Foods. I just finished reading Culture Jam (Kalle Lasn, of Adbusters) the other day, did a little research, and found out that Philip Morris, a leading cigarette company, owns all of these foods. Not cool - meaning if I purchase any of these products, my money could go right back in to pushing cigarettes to little kids, as Dan pointed out. Or to pushing cigarettes, in general! So, we 're going to try to boycott all those foods. It'll be tough - a lot of them are household names I've used for years! But I want to give this a shot.

In other news, I got the day off on Thursday, for J20 - I get to go protest President Bush's inauguration! Hopefully someone gets the picture when all of us go marching on Wasington...

I did also just finish Catch-22. Excellent book. Not quite sure what I'll tackle next...

I've had the Philip Morris issue in the past. There's no good answer but boycott or submit to global product hemogeny. (See Unilever, P&G, etc.) At one time, I wanted to boycott evil food processors for how they treat animals, but it became nearly impossible because they own so many businesses besides meat processing. I just gave up on McDonalds et. al.

If you liked Catch-22, you might like Something Happened, which a lot of people hate but I think is great.

Cool blog, a shame it isn't updated more often! ;)

Catch-22 is one of my favourite novels. I read the 'sequel', Closing Time, a few weeks ago. The first half is very good, the second only so-so. Overall, I wouldn't recommend reading it because it partially spoils one's perception of the characters. I bought Catch As Catch Can recently, but haven't had a chance to read it yet.

If you haven't seen the film version of Catch-22, do so. Excellent casting. They were spot-on with Yossarian.
